A Sears model bass guitar once owned by Kurt Cobain sold at auction on this week for $43,750.

The guitar, which was used by Cobain to record early demos for the songs “Fecal Matter” and “Organized Confusion,” was one of several items that drew heavy bidding at Christie’s most recent pop and rock memorabilia sale.

Word of the collaboration dates back to 2005, when Grohl told Mojo Magazine, “The next project that I’m trying to initiate involves me on drums, Josh Homme on guitar, and John Paul Jones playing bass. That’s the next album. That wouldn’t suck.”

Jones further fueled speculation in April of this year, when he told Women’s Wear Daily, “I’m working on some other music, which is more rock based, with a couple of other people. We hope to be everywhere this summer.”

Pressed for more information, Jones told the magazine, “It’s a secret, actually. I shouldn’t have even said that, you know? There are some exciting projects coming up, let’s put it that way.”

The trio is said to be currently at work in a L.A. recording studio.
